At the beginning of 2017, Géolocation’s team has been commissioned to carry out a 3D scan of the floor of the church Saint-François-de-Sales in Neuville. The church is currently undergoing major rehabilitation work to integrate new service spaces for citizens. While maintaining an area for church services, a library and multifunctional spaces will be created.
About this church, it is interesting to remind a few key historical facts of this place with great heritage value from 1854. The current edifice has been built on the remains of the previous construction, dated from the very beginning of the 18th century. The elements inside the choir are considered to be the oldest religious set in Canada. Moreover, the canopy, dating back to 1695, is classified as historical object and is even considered one of the oldest carved works remaining in Quebec. This canopy would have been exchanged in 1717 at the parish of Neuville for wheat, in order to feed the most needy of Québec. Also, large paintings plus the graves of several priests under the choir make this church even more unique.
It is on this exceptional site that we realized the 3D scan. Since the floor of the church is a bit warped, the architect and the contractor involved wanted to obtain an accurate state of the site to better plan to work to be carried out. The 3D scan allowed them to evaluate and analyze the flatness of the floor leading to a colorimetric image that illustrates differences in elevation.

After this, Géolocation has provided a lot of sectional and floor profiles, which resulted in the knowledge of the floor conditions at the specific locations where the new rehabilitation works should take place.

Thus, it was possible to evaluate the feasibility of the grinding technology for the floor and the installation of new elements. The information following the 3D scan has therefore enabled a better planning of the work, as well as a time and costs reduction of the project. This use of the 3D scan in building rehabilitation work is one of the many applications of this advanced technology. don’t hesitate to contact Géolocation to discuss the needs of your projects and the solutions available.
