Géolocation

1/2 000 SCALE HYDROGRAPHY AND BUILDINGS UPDATE PROJECT

As part of an experimental project, data on hydrography and buildings were automatically extracted from LiDAR data. The objective of the mandate was to correct the cartographic problems that this approach generated, using a traditional stereo digitization capture method. The Department of Energy and Natural Resources and its partners requested the realization of a map at a scale of 1/2 000 and the characterization of these elements, based on this first extraction. A second objective concerned the creation of a report, which made it possible to evaluate the efforts required for this hybrid cartographic approach, and its viability .

Geolocation has therefore carried out the correction, capture and characterization of all the geographical objects constituting the hydrography and the buildings, in the Outaouais region, for a sector of approximately 2000 km².

Geolocation’s collaboration in carrying out this mandate has been more than beneficial for the client, and the conclusion of the report has been shared with the Canada Center for Mapping and Earth Observation at Natural Resources Canada.
