LANDSLIDE IN POINTE-LEBEL : lIDAR AND AERIAL IMAGERY REQUESTED

Géolocation expertise was again selected for a LiDAR survey and aerial photography after a landslide that happened in Baie-Comeau on May 28, 2017 at around 13:00. To sum up, the event was characterized by the disconnection of a linear section of about sixty meters, forcing the evacuation of three residences in Pointe-Lebel.

For analysis purposes and especially for prevention, the surveys coverage goes beyond the affected area. In total, 60 km of coastlines will be covered by aerial photography  and LiDAR from Ragueneau, via Pointe-aux-Outardes and Pointe-Lebel, to Baie-Comeau. This project is constrained by tight deadlines and very precise flight specifications: at very low tide, at a resolution of 7cm, flight at the beginning or end of the day to avoid spotlights, these dazzling white reflections on water surfaces.

At the same time, in early June, Géolocation also captured LiDAR data from the coastlines of Sept-Îles and Port-Cartier, both paralyzed by the storm of December 30, after destructive winds and a rough tide . In this case, the overflight of the study area had to be carried out a few months later, in the spring, allowing thus a better knowledge of the topography of the terrain and to avoid the presence of snow on the ground.

Thanks to our state-of-the-art equipment, our experienced team prepares and creates various high-quality cartographic products, used to guide and refine your analyzes: orthophotos, mosaics, digital terrain modeling, 3D modeling. Géolocation offers you data captured on the ground which, once processed, will allow the actors concerned to better handle and anticipate the possible scenarios due to the natural hazards.
